Back Story – The Story Unheard:

While visiting my family and my  home in Virginia Beach, I always make sure to visit my favorite spot at Sandbridge Beach, Back Bay Wildlife Refuge. It has been the wellspring of my most treasured landscape photos; many of which have become the backgrounds for my illustrative work. The landscape is quite diverse and is ever evolving. On this particular trip, I had intentionally set out during a cloudy day in which storms were predicted – however they were still off in the distance and I had hoped that I would just be able to capture cool cloud formations reflected in the water below. However, as I approached my perch a thunder storm appeared out of nowhere and in an instant! I quickly secured my camera in a plastic shopping bag that I had tucked away in my backpack and began capturing the falling rain. I was able to capture the beginning drops pelting the wooden walkway beneath my feet thru the rustling marsh grasses (see my image entitled “Dear God! Make Me A Bird”) and right through the trail to the spot where this photograph was taken. Once I reached this location, my awareness was brought to how peaceful the rain sounded as the drops gently plopped in the water as if each and every one of them wore a tiny little parachute to land gracefully and quietly to become part of a larger body of themselves; a stark contrast to the clouds that spit them from the sky, dark and furiously swirling overhead. Hence we have the title, Quiet Fury. Needless to say, the storm passed just as quickly as it appeared, once again shifting the mood and appearance of my surroundings.
